Descriptions
Abstract: A new spectroscopic dataset of the gamma-ray burst (GRB) 180728A and its associated supernova SN 2018fip is now publicly available through the ESO Science Archive Facility. The release comprises 13 epochs of observations obtained with the X-shooter instrument at ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT), covering the evolution of the GRB afterglow and the emergence of the associated supernova. The dataset provides a detailed time series that enables studies of the transition from afterglow-dominated emission to supernova-dominated spectra. The observations were carried out under ESO programmes 0101.D-0648 (PI: N. Tanvir) and the Director’s Discretionary Time (DDT) programme 2101.D-5044 (PI: A. Rossi), spanning observing periods P101 and P102. In addition to the standard data products, this release includes a dedicated late-time extraction of the host galaxy spectrum. This ancillary product is based on the final observing epoch, when the transient emission has faded, and includes refined flux calibration using photometric constraints. The dataset covers the UVB, VIS, and NIR spectral ranges and has been processed using the ESO X-shooter pipeline along with dedicated post-processing steps. This release offers valuable opportunities for studies of GRB–supernova connections, spectral evolution, and host galaxy properties.
Other: This is a dynamic dataset; it is growing as new data is added. The DOI refers to the newest available dataset.
