Descriptions
Abstract: The ESO Telescope Bibliography (telbib, https://telbib.eso.org), a database developed and curated by the ESO Library, is used to provide an overview of the organization’s productivity and impact from 1996 to the present. The number of refereed papers that use partly or exclusively ESO data is given per observing site, telescope, and instrument. Fig. 3 puts ESO's facilities in context with selected other ground-based and space-based facilities; this comparison needs to be used with utmost care as the selection criteria for inclusion or exclusion of papers vary among observatories. Before inclusion in the telbib database, each paper is carefully examined by the curators to make sure that ESO’s selection criteria are met. A description of telbib, its methodology, paper classification policy, and workflow are available on the web (https://www.eso.org/libraries/telbib_info.html).
